On Saturday, October 5, 2019, the National Alliance for Hispanic Health and The Hispanic Federation will celebrate their fourth annual ¡Vive tu vida! Get Up! Get Moving!® event in Kissimmee. The event includes free health screenings and promotes physical activity and good nutrition in Hispanic communities for better health and wellness for the whole family.
“Our annual ¡Vive tu vida! Get Up! Get Moving! signature event puts family and culture at the center of health and creates the space and opportunity we need to promote healthier lifestyles and wellness for Latino families of all ages across Florida” said Yanidsi Velez, Florida State Director of Hispanic Federation
“Partnering with the National Alliance for Hispanic Health, and the dozens of Latino nonprofits, within the Hispanic Federation network, that serve our communities daily, we are able to deliver free health screenings coupled with family-friendly and culturally relevant activities that lead to better health outcomes. This day of health and wellness builds on our other work to break down policy barriers that keep our families from accessing the preventative care and healthcare they need. Making health and wellness easy and accessible for all our families leads to a stronger and more productive future for everyone.” said José Calderón, President of Hispanic Federation.
“As a special feature, the Alliance is bringing the All of Us Research Program to the 2019 Kissimmee ¡Vive tu vida! Get Up! Get Moving!® event. All of Us is a historic effort to gather data from one million or more people living in the US to accelerate research and improve health. The participation of diverse communities in All of Us will help build the foundation for a new era of health care where medicine is tailored to each person,” said Dr. Jane L. Delgado, President and CEO of the National Alliance for Hispanic Health, the nation’s leading Hispanic health advocacy group.
Precision medicine is an emerging approach to disease treatment and prevention that considers differences in people’s lifestyles, environments and biological makeup, including genes. By partnering with 1 million diverse people who share information about themselves over many years, the All of Us Research Program will enable research to more precisely prevent and treat a variety of health conditions.
“We are happy to have the support of Advent Health, Walmart, Florida Blue, Iheart Radio, La Mega 97.1 and Acción 810 am, who, like our organization, work to improve the health of our Hispanic community,” concluded Yanidsi Vélez, Florida State Director.
