PJTN: TAKING BACK AMERICA’S CHILDREN CAMPAIGN THANKS FLORIDA GOVERNOR RON DESANTIS AND FLORIDA EDUCATION COMMISSIONER RICHARD CORCORAN FOR THEIR LEADERSHIP IN A “COMMON CORE” FREE AMERICA
(Orlando, Florida) – September 9, 2020 – The Taking Back America’s Children campaign, pioneered by Laurie Cardoza-Moore, Founder and President of Proclaiming Justice to The Nations (PJTN), is issuing a formal statement this week to thank Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for his commitment to a “Common Core Free” Florida school system that will bring a return of the study of America’s greatness to the forefront of education.
The mandate to remove Common Core from Florida Schools led to the establishment of a new vision to raise civic literacy within the state, deemed the “B.E.S.T. Standards”—an acronym for “Benchmarks in Excellent Student Thinking.”
PJTN’s academic research team, under the expert direction of Dr. Sandra Alfonsi, has recently played a major role in the review of Florida Middle School civic textbooks, as part of an expert fact-finding coalition engaged by the State to take part in the review and revision process of civic educational materials being presented for review to Governor DeSantis and Florida Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran.
“Proclaiming Justice to The Nations has been an ardent fighter for the eradication of Common Core in Florida, and we are pleased they recognize that Florida’s B.E.S.T. Standards will be a model for the rest of the nation,” said Commissioner Corcoran. “The elimination of Common Core will make Florida the most literate state in the nation, will allow thousands of students across our state to not only learn about the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, but also give them the confidence to succeed academically and in life, and will enable parents to reinforce what their child is learning in the classroom every day. Governor Ron DeSantis made a pledge to the citizens of Florida to remove all vestiges of Common Core, and he delivered. We are thrilled this historic task has been completed, and that we are our way to making Florida the best state in the nation for education.”
Laurie Cardoza-Moore noted:
“By eradicating Common Core from Florida schools, the State is on course with Governor DeSantis’ goal to provide a roadmap to make Florida Standards #1 in the Nation and their students the most literate. PJTN has had the privilege of engaging in the review process to ensure the adoption of instructional materials that will yield high-quality curriculum that are aligned to achieve new standards of educational excellence, including civics reading lists of foundational American documents grade appropriate to continue to build background knowledge in U.S. history and government. While we reviewed middle school civics textbooks earlier this year, we were encouraged to learn that K-12 grades in Florida are being prepared to be fully engaged and that by 5th grade, Florida’s students will be studying the Constitution and being given the opportunity to know the greatness of this country. Thanks to Governor DeSantis’ vision, this new course promises to be a game-changer to the future of Florida children and to the state’s place in American leadership.”
She added, “PJTN’s national mandate is in total accord with Florida’s ideal system of civic education that is designed to equip a well-informed citizen, productively engaged in working for the common good and hopeful about democracy. We must reimagine the way we prepare young people to be full-fledged citizens. We must look beyond the classroom and imagine a full life of civic learning and practice.”
Despite all challenges, Cardoza-Moore is calling for the visionary change seen in Florida to be adopted across America.
She added, “PJTN is firmly committed to our campaign of Taking Back America’s Children – an effort that is rooted in the call for a complete reform of America’s educational system. We have for decades allowed the elements of disinformation, biased propaganda, removal of American exceptionalism through the instructional absence of history and civics, and the sheer forces of infiltration of our children’s textbooks by foreign forces wishing to destroy America, to bring us to this point of a generation of young people who actually hate this nation. Entities such as Pearson Publishers have been the number one enemy of American education as is Common Core. The division and the violence we are seeing in America’s streets today all began with what our children were or were not being taught while we were not watching. We must revise the course in our educational system and create new generations of American leadership before it’s too late.”
