ATTORNEY LÍGIA MAURA COSTA-International Business Law OPENING SPEAKER
Ligia Maura COSTA is full professor and head of the department of Social and Legal Sciences at Escola de Administração de Empresas de São Paulo – Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV-EAESP).
She received her habilitation degree in international law (“Livre-Docência”) from Faculdade de Direito da Universidade de São Paulo (FDUSP). She holds a Ph.D. and a LL.M both in international trade law from the University of Paris-X and a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from FDUSP.
She was Visiting Scholar at the University of Michigan LawSchool and a postdoctoral fellow at Sciences Po, Paris. She was Associate Dean for International Relations at FGV-EAESP and has worked at the WTO in the Legal Affairs Division. From 2008 until 2016, she was affiliated professor at Sciences Po., Paris and Universität St. Gallen.
She has held Visiting Professor positions at several universities around the world (HEC, Paris; TsinghuaUniversity – SEM, School of Economics and Management, Beijing and Graduate School of Management, St. Petersburg State University among others).
She is author of several books and many articles in Brazil and abroad. She is senior partner of a law firm with offices in São Paulo and in Paris. She is member of the Academic Initiative Against Corruption (ACAD), of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
She has been practicing law for more than twenty years, as lawyer counsel and arbitrator, acting in Brazil and abroad, advising companies, individuals, governments and international organizations.Ligia Maura Costa has extensive experience in international contracts negotiations, preparing legal opinions, structuring M&A and joint ventures agreements and drafting and implementing CSR codes.
