United Arts of Central Florida announced the recipients of the second cycle of Diverse Programming Grants. In February, two organizations were awarded a total of $8,000.
Diverse Programming Grants incentivize cultural organizations to create programming that will appeal to a wide range of audiences, particularly racially and ethnically diverse communities, in Central Florida.
This funding is provided by a $50,000 grant from Duke Energy, awarded to United Arts to continue diversity and inclusion outreach initiatives. The goal is to increase awareness and participation of diverse communities in Central Florida’s arts and culture.
The grant program has three deadlines per year, and a one-month turnaround from submission to grant decision. Grantees must engage in target marketing to diverse communities to drive attendance to the funded event and show plans to build relationships with their new audiences
This cycle’s two grant recipients are:
Central Florida Community Arts – awarded $4,000 for the concert "Sound Bytes" on May 20, 2017 at Oak Ridge High School, Orlando. The CFCArts Young Artists Orchestra, in partnership with the CFCArts Youth Vocal Ambassadors, will present a concert infusing the music of cutting- edge video games and Asian culture, including performances in Mandarin and Japanese.
Crealdé School of Art – awarded $4,000 for Expanding Reach to Winter Park's African-American Community, May 12-Sept. 12, 2017. Many African-American residents in Winter Park are still not aware their community is represented through photographs, oral histories and public art at the Hannibal Square Heritage Center. This project will begin with the Center’s 10th anniversary celebration on May 12, launching a four-month exhibition, “The Heritage Collection Phase IX:Hannibal Square Heroes.”
